Nuclear Magnetic Resonance is an established measurement that is both non-invasive and non-destructive for characterizing pore size, fluid saturations, wettability, and fluid mobility. W.D. Von Gonten Laboratories utilizes a 12 MHz NMR spectrometer to acquire high fidelity, high SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) T1-T2 and D-T2 measurements on conventional and unconventional rocks to accurately quantify water and hydrocarbon volumes; while helping in partitioning the nano-pore and meso-pore systems into water-wet, oil-wet and intermediate wet pore networks. Further, fluid signals are very distinct at 12 MHz, which provides accurate partitioning of bitumen, bound oil, light oil and water for a robust organic shale fluid characterization.

Full 3D gradients provide multi-dimensional scanning of core plugs, which enable monitoring fluid fronts during core flooding or evaluating poro-fluid inhomogeneity of complex vuggy rocks and heterogenous organic shale plugs. W.D. Von Gonten Laboratories also houses a 2 MHz NMR spectrometer, which is used for comparative studies involving well logs, and for studying frequency dependence on T1 and T2 of pore fluids.
